A Supervisor’s Role: Strategies for Combating Burnout, Fostering Wellbeing, and Cultivating Quality through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Principles

The human services workforce faces numerous challenges in fostering the emotional and physical wellbeing of vulnerable populations. Direct support professionals grapple with the emotional and physical demands of their work, often encountering compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and overall dissatisfaction. Supervisors are in a unique position to identify and address these challenges but require support in identifying signs of “burnout” and implementing effective strategies.

Drawing from the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, this webinar offers practical approaches to enhance satisfaction and tackle organizational practices contributing to burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma.

Attendees will gain

  1. practical tools to identify indicators of burnout and compassion fatigue, along with
  2. tips for supporting the emotional wellbeing of their workforce. Additionally, they will
  3. learn about a continuous quality improvement framework integrating diversity and inclusion principles to address sources of workforce dissatisfaction and distress.

Attendees will be able to describe the main “symptoms” of burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.

Attendees will be able to use a practical tool to assess the degree to which supervisees experience these “symptoms”.

Attendees will be able to engage their supervisees in a discussion to understand the impact of the work on their emotional wellbeing and explore approaches to help.

Attendees will be able to explain the relationship between DEI and continuous quality improvement.

Attendees will describe the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion as applied to addressing the sources of dissatisfaction ad distress among the workforce.
